Sea Turtle Rescue
One Starts Many adopted a green sea turtle named Mydas from the Audubon Aquarium. This sea turtle doesn’t live in my house, but I could visit Mydas at the aquarium in New Orleans anytime I want. The money we spent to adopt him helps pay for his food and other stuff. If you want to adopt Mydas or another sea creature you can visit www.auduboninstitute.org.
Here are some turtle facts about Mydas. He is four feet in length and 300 pounds. His species is endangered. He is one of the 7 species of sea turtles, and most of them are in danger. Mydas likes to eat copepods, algae, isopods and zooplankton.
Money Going to the Gulf
On November 12th, we held a “Beef and Reef Relief” Concert to help Heifer International and the Gulf. Students at my school were able to raise money to buy a few cows for Heifer.
On the reef side, One Starts Money raised a total of $1145.
I wanted to send this money to two important places in the Gulf. $560 is going to KINDD (Kids in Need During Disaster to help purchase 14 new uniform sweatshirts for kids in a fishing town heavily hit by the oil disaster). They are still trying to raise money for several hundred kids, so please donate by visiting www.kindd.org.
$585 is going to the Audubon Institute which overseas the rescue of injured seal animals. If you missed our Benefit and you want to help, please visit www.auduboninstitute.org to make a donation.
This past weekend, our school’s ocean club helped clean up streams. This picture is of me and my teacher at the Clean Stream Event.
Operation Ocean Club
Operation Ocean Club is in business. This week I started my ocean club at school. We had our first meeting. Ever since I heard about the oil spill I wanted to start this club. I want the club to learn more about the ocean and how to help it. One of my teachers volunteered to be in the ocean club to help out. At our first meeting we talked about everyone’s ideas and I answered questions my friends had. We want to meet once a month or maybe once a week.
If you have any other ideas for our club, please let me know.
Trip to New Orleans & Gulf is a Go!!
Saturday I leave for New Orleans. Thanks to WitKids(Whatever It Takes), an organization that supports kids community service projects around the world, I’m going to meet with some pretty cool people. I applied to do a WitProject to report from the Gulf. This next week I’ll be going on a boat ride, talking with the mayor or someone from his office, meeting with specialists at the zoo, and hopefully talking to local kids. When I get back from my trip, you’ll be able to see all my video footage at the WitKids website. Thanks to WitKids and everyone that has helped and supported my project. You can also show your support by following me on Twitter and Facebook, and it’s never too late to order a One Starts Many Wristband!

One Starts Many Wristbands
I’m getting ready to visit the Gulf at the end of July or early August so I can tell you what is going on there. When I visit I want to get some samples of the water and sand and test toys in them. I want to talk with other kids. I want to find out more about what is happening. www.witkids.org is going to send me a flip camera so I can report to you on video.
To help pay for the trip, I’m going to be selling blue www.onestartsmany.com wristbands that have our website and the words “Help Save Our Oceans”. I’ll also be donating money from the sales of the wristbands to groups that are helping in the Gulf.
Wristbands are $3 each directly, and $4 with shipping and handling. I won’t have the wristbands in hand for a few weeks, but you can order now by sending me an email to onestartsmany@gmail.com with the number of wristbands you want.
Thanks so much for donating.
Dylan’s shout out to WIT KIDS.org and talks about why he started One Starts Many
