One Starts Many
This summer, I went back to New Orleans to check on my friends.  I learned that the dispersants from the BP slick is killing everything.  Fisherman are still fishing but some not as much.  My friends want you to visit the Gulf too.

Have you heard of the Blue Marbles?  I heard about the Blue Marbles about 8 months ago.  If you go to the Blue Marble website, you can buy special blue marbles to give to people who have helped the save the ocean.
I told my younger brother’s school about this project and then they raised money to buy blue marbles for the whole school.
Please visit the Blue Marble website and get some blue marbles and start giving them to ocean helpers.

This is me fishing at Lake of the Ozarks.  A lake that gets very polluted from pesticides and other stuff in people’s yards when the rain comes down.  Right now I’m fishing before a big storm.

Earth Day

This Earth Day my class and I are going to a park and planting indigenous plants.  It’s important to do this because this park has more plants that don’t belong in this region than plants that should be there.

What are you doing for Earth Day?  If you want other ideas, maybe you could try to not use as much electricty or water.  You could take a shorter shower or lower your heater by two degrees.

One Year Oil Spill Anniversary

This is the one year anniversary of the oil spill that inspired me to make this website.  In a few weeks, it will be the anniversary of my website.  Please pick up trash in your neighborhood and clean up your creeks to help remember this day and hope it never happens again.

The whole planet respects us, but we don’t respect it.  It gives us resources like air, water, seafood, pretty much everything.  And then we destroy it.  Now, please don’t destroy the earth.

Sea Turtle Rescue

One Starts Many adopted a green sea turtle named Mydas from the Audubon Aquarium.  This sea turtle doesn’t live in my house, but I could visit Mydas at the aquarium in New Orleans anytime I want.  The money we spent to adopt him helps pay for his food and other stuff.  If you want to adopt Mydas or another sea creature you can visit www.auduboninstitute.org

Here are some turtle facts about Mydas.  He is four feet in length and 300 pounds.  His species is endangered.  He is one of the 7 species of sea turtles, and most of them are in danger.  Mydas likes to eat copepods, algae, isopods and zooplankton.

Have you heard of Stephen R. Swinburne?

Today at my school, author Stephen Swinburne visited.  He writes children’s books that tell a funny story or poem and they have facts in the back.  I really like his books because he has lots about the ocean.  My favorite book of his is Turtle Tide because it is about sea turtles, my second favorite ocean animal.  Look for these 3 books I thought were interesting:  Ocean Soup, Saving Manatees, and Turtle Tide.
